It was December 2008. I was 21, studying full-time at CCU, 7 months into marriage, and working a part time job in retail. My lovely wife Hillary and I were committed to spending our first Christmas together with our family that lived in another state. However, I was unable to get the time off for the holiday. So, I did the only logical thing I could think of... I quit my job and used a $700 student loan refund to purchase a used carpet cleaning machine :) I created a flyer with some goofy clip art and began hanging them up everywhere I could.
Fast forward to July 2010. I am SO busy - I'm doing everything and burning out fast. That's when Hillary joined me. With her brilliance, our revenues increased 400% in one year. Enabling us to hire our first 2 employees in August of 2011, just one month before our first child was born. We continued to hustle - building a property restoration division and becoming a preferred vendor for one of he largest insurance companies in the U.S.
Fast forward to December 2014. Hillary is pregnant with our son and ready to move on from the cleaning/restoration world. I was ready to slow down a bit and spend more time with the family. We chose to downsize the company by 65% - officially closing our property restoration division March 31, 2015. Doing so allowed Hillary to transition out of Jake's and start her own kids fashion company "Wunderkin." I automated the cleaning division and "retired" as a full-time stay at home "Papa." Spending the last three years raising my three littles has been the greatest privilege of my life so far.
With all three of my kiddo's in school, I came back to work in January 2018. The team and I restructured the company and created a grand new vision of who we are and what we will accomplish. The last few months have been full of fun and excitement as the Jake's team has doubled in size... 2018 is going to be the best year ever :)
